Craig Fisher: Aftermath
18 June – 18 July 2004

Studio Voltaire is pleased to present Craig Fisher: Aftermath, a new large scale, sculptural installation made in response to the particular architectural contexts of Studio Voltaire’s unique exhibition space. The exhibition will be Fisher's first large-scale solo show in London.

Upholstered pools of blood, shimmering and glittering outlines of unidentified bodies, spent weapons strewn on the floor… Aftermath presents a considerable development in Fisher’s practice. Floor and wall pieces, beautifully crafted in fabric, adorn Studio Voltaire’s space, a former gothic style chapel. While individual details seem to reference the latest in avant-garde design, the overall impression is that you have been transported by your TV to the latest media disaster: Or is it a film set – Kill Bill meets South Park, The Shining via The Wizard of Oz and then back again through Bowling for Columbine? Fisher has delicately created an aftermath of multiple popular references. Familiarity, confused by representational play, recedes, leaving a nightmarish playground of soft-edged things to consider.

This exhibition has been kindly supported by Ecole Cantonale D’Art du Valais, Switzerland
With additional support from Arts Council England, North West and Goldsmiths College, University of London
