Studio Voltaire commissions a wide range of longer-term and collaborative projects. We work with artists, organisations, schools, colleges and communities to create contexts for people to share and collaborate, while also supporting critical engagement and lifelong learning. We often work beyond the walls of the gallery, initiating projects in the public realm and supporting artists to work in new social and cultural contexts.

Our ambitious programmes of workshops, commissions, offsite projects, residencies, research, learning programmes and partnerships, explore the role of culture in a wider context; contributing to the cultural life of the city, and in particular to the local life of our neighbourhood in South London.

Projects often respond to socio-political issues, whilst questioning established norms, histories, ways of thinking and living. We have developed a strong track record of working with contemporary artists in this way, including: Monster Chetwynd, Sunil Gupta, Conal McStravick, Juliet Jacques, X Marks The Spot, They Are Here and Rehana Zaman.

If you want to learn more about our programmes or to arrange a tour or workshop, please contact Laura Harford, Curator (Participation) on or 0207 622 1294.
