Monster Chetwynd: Shadow Puppet Workshops
Take part in workshops with artist Monster Chetwynd. Learn how to create your own shadow theatre box, puppets and performance, using simple recyclable materials inspired by early 20th Century silhouette animations.
These online DIY shadow puppet workshops are for South London residents to keep creative and inspired during lockdown. Use your puppets in a final performance inspired by the 1955 American thriller The Night of the Hunter (Dir. Charles Laughton).
- Take part in one 2–hour workshop session via Zoom
- Suitable for anyone aged 18+ based in South London
- No previous arts experience is necessary, but an interest in art, making and/or theatre helps
- Art packs with essential materials will be posted to all participants.

- About Monster Chetwynd
Monster Chetwynd (b. 1973, London) is based in Zurich, Switzerland. Solo exhibitions and performances include De Pont, Tilburg, The Netherlands (2019), Villa Arson, Nice, France (2019), Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Torino, Italy (2018); CCA Glasgow (2016); Bergen Assembly, Bergen Kunsthall, Norway (2016); Bonner Kunstverein, Bonn, Germany (2016); Nottingham Contemporary (2014); Studio Voltaire, London (2014, 2005) and the New Museum, New York (2011–12). Chetwynd was the first ever performance artist to be nominated for the Turner Prize in 2012. The artist is represented by Sadie Coles HQ, London; Massimo de Carlo, Milan/London and Galerie Gregor Staiger, Zurich.
